General
Where is Angir Welding & Fabrication located?
Our shop is at 1363 81st St, Brooklyn, NY 11228, in Dyker Heights, close to Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst and Borough Park.
What areas do you serve?
All of Brooklyn, plus Staten Island, Queens and Manhattan. South Brooklyn neighborhoods are closest to our shop.
Do you do small welding jobs?
Yes. A single broken hinge, a cracked bracket or a quick gate fix is welcome.
Do you offer free estimates?
Send us photos and rough measurements by text or email and we'll usually give you a price range quickly. For custom work we'll visit to measure.
Can you come to my location?
Yes — our mobile welding rig is self-powered, so we can weld on site at your home, storefront, job site or yard.
What metals do you work with?
Carbon steel, stainless steel (304 and 316), aluminum and cast iron, using MIG, TIG and stick welding, plus torch and plasma cutting.
How long does a custom railing or gate take?
Most residential railings and gates are 1–3 weeks from approved design to install, depending on finish. Repairs are often same-week.
Do you handle permits?
We build to permitted drawings and coordinate with your architect, engineer or expediter. We'll tell you up front if your job likely needs a permit.
Do you do emergency repairs?
Yes — broken storefront gates, break-in damage and unsafe railings. Call or text and we'll tell you honestly how fast we can get there.
What finishes do you offer?
Industrial primer and paint, powder coating in any color, hot-dip galvanizing, blackened steel and brushed or polished stainless.
Can you match existing ironwork?
Yes — we replicate picket patterns, scrolls and ornaments so repairs and extensions blend in.
How do I get a quote?
Call or text us, or use the quote form. Photos and approximate measurements help us price faster.

Stairs & Railings
How long does a custom metal staircase take?
Most residential stairs take 2–4 weeks from approved drawing to install, depending on finish. Powder coating and galvanizing add a few days because they're done at a finishing shop.
What diameter spiral stair do I need?
Most homes use 4 ft to 6 ft diameters. Smaller saves space but feels tighter to climb; we'll measure the opening and recommend the largest diameter that comfortably fits.
How tall does a stair railing need to be in NYC?
Handrails on stairs are typically 34–38 inches above the tread nosing, and guards at open edges and landings are typically 42 inches in most occupancies (36 inches can apply inside some dwelling units). We confirm the exact requirement for your building type before fabricating.
Should I repair or replace my stoop railing?
If the rails and pickets are sound and only the bases are rusted, a repair (cutting out and rebuilding the post bottoms, then re-anchoring) is usually cheaper. If rust has eaten through rails or welds throughout, replacement makes more sense. We'll tell you honestly which it is.
How tall must a roof deck railing be in NYC?
Guards on roofs and decks are generally required to be at least 42 inches high, with openings that won't pass a 4-inch sphere. Your architect's drawings will govern if the deck is part of a permitted job.
Is cable railing legal in NYC?
Cable infill can meet code when cables are tensioned and spaced so a 4-inch sphere can't pass, but horizontal infill is not allowed in every application. We'll confirm for your space before you pick a design.
Can you add a handrail to my parent's front steps quickly?
Yes. Simple straight handrails are one of our fastest jobs — often measured and installed within the same week.
Gates, Fences & Security
How much does a custom iron gate cost?
Price depends on width, height, style, finish and whether it's automated. A simple walkway gate is far less than a double driveway gate with an operator. Send a photo and rough measurements and we'll give you a straight quote.
Swing gate or sliding gate — which is better?
Sliding gates are better for short or sloped driveways and for openings onto the sidewalk. Swing gates are simpler and cheaper when you have clear, level space for the leaves to open.
How high can my front-yard fence be in NYC?
Front-yard fence height limits depend on your zoning district — many residential districts limit front-yard fences to around 4 feet. We'll check before you commit to a height.
Are window guards required in NYC?
Yes in many cases. Under the NYC Health Code, building owners must install approved window guards in apartments where a child 10 years old or younger lives (and on request), with exceptions for windows that open onto a fire escape and certain first-floor windows. Approved guards must be the type that meets the Health Department's standard.
Can you build an under-stoop gate for a brownstone?
Yes — under-stoop (garden-level) gates are one of our most common brownstone jobs. We match the ironwork to the stoop railing.
Building & Structural
Do fire escapes need to be inspected in NYC?
Yes. Fire escapes on buildings over six stories are examined as part of the Facade Inspection & Safety Program (FISP, formerly Local Law 11), and NYC law also requires owners to keep fire escapes in good repair and periodically test them. Your engineer or architect will specify what's required for your building.
Do I need an engineer for a steel beam?
Yes. Structural steel in NYC should be designed by a licensed engineer, and most wall removals require a DOB permit. We build to their drawings.
Can you just paint a rusted lintel?
If rust is only on the surface, cleaning and painting can buy time. If the steel has lost section or is pushing brick, it needs replacement.
Who is responsible for a sidewalk cellar door in NYC?
Generally the adjacent property owner is responsible for maintaining sidewalk cellar doors in safe condition.
Do I need a permit for a pergola or canopy?
It depends on size, location and attachment to the building. Many attached canopies and larger structures require DOB approval; we'll flag this up front.
Can you replace a ladder under an existing roof hatch?
Yes. We measure the hatch and ceiling height and fabricate a new ladder that bolts in.
Does a mezzanine need a permit?
Generally yes in NYC — it adds floor area and needs an engineer's design. We build to the approved drawings.
Do I need a permit for a tree guard in NYC?
Yes — tree guards on street trees require a free permit from NYC Parks, and must follow their design guidelines. We'll help you with the specs.
Commercial & Storefront
Are solid roll-down gates still allowed in NYC?
Local Law 75 of 2009 requires storefront roll-down gates that are newly installed or replaced to be at least 70% see-through, and set a deadline for converting existing solid gates. If you're replacing a solid gate, it will need to be a visible type.
Can you work after we close?
Yes — we schedule installs and repairs outside service hours when needed.
Can you put bollards on the public sidewalk?
Bollards on City sidewalks require NYC DOT approval. Bollards on private property generally don't. We'll tell you which applies.
Custom Fabrication
Do I need a drawing?
No. A photo, a sketch with measurements, or the old broken part is usually enough to start. For bigger jobs we'll make a simple drawing for approval.
Can you match a cast-iron ornament that's broken off?
Often yes — we source matching castings or fabricate a close replica in steel.
Can you build a base for a slab I already have?
Yes. Send the slab dimensions and weight and we'll size the base and add mounting points.
How often should I repaint my iron railing?
Outdoor painted iron in NYC usually needs touch-up every few years and a full repaint every 5–8 years, depending on exposure.
Welding & Repair
Is there a welding shop near me in Brooklyn?
We're at 1363 81st St in Dyker Heights, close to Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Borough Park and Sunset Park, and we travel throughout Brooklyn with mobile equipment.
Do you charge a trip fee for mobile welding?
Mobile jobs typically include a service call charge that covers travel and setup. We'll quote it up front.
Are you available nights and weekends?
Call or text any time. We answer late and will tell you honestly how soon we can be there.
Why does my gate keep sagging?
Usually the frame lacks a diagonal brace, the hinges are worn, or the post is leaning. Fixing only the symptom won't last.
Can you weld cast aluminum?
Often yes, though cast aluminum can be porous. We'll assess the part first.
Can you remove the rainbow discoloration from welds?
Yes — we clean and passivate or brush welds to restore the look.
Can all cast iron be welded?
Most can, but results vary. Some parts are better brazed or replaced. We'll look first.
Can you weld a cracked trailer frame?
Usually — we weld the crack and add reinforcement plates so it doesn't return.
