A staircase is the one piece of metalwork everyone in the house touches every day, so it has to be right: level treads, consistent risers, no flex, no rattle. We measure floor-to-floor on site, draw the stair before any steel is cut, and fabricate stringers, treads and landings as one fitted system.
Brooklyn buildings are rarely square. Brownstone floors settle, warehouse slabs slope, and basement ceilings are tight. Because we build to field dimensions instead of catalog sizes, the stair fits the building you actually have.

Why Brooklyn chooses Angir for custom metal stairs
Measured, not guessed
Every stair starts with a site visit and a laser measurement of rise, run and headroom so risers come out equal top to bottom.
Code-minded design
We design riser height, tread depth, headroom and guard/handrail heights to the NYC Building Code and coordinate with your architect or expediter when a permit is involved.
One shop, start to finish
The welder who builds your stair installs it. No subcontracted fabrication, no finger-pointing at install.
How it works
- 1. Call or text photos
Send a few photos and rough measurements. Most jobs get a price range the same day.
- 2. We measure on site
We laser-measure and template the real opening, stair or wall — Brooklyn buildings are never square.
- 3. Drawing & fixed quote
You approve a simple drawing, material and finish before any steel is cut. No surprises.
- 4. Built in our shop
Cut, fit and welded in our Dyker Heights shop by the same crew that installs it.
- 5. Finished to last
Primer and industrial paint, powder coat or hot-dip galvanizing — chosen for NYC weather.

Custom Metal Stairs FAQ
How long does a custom metal staircase take?
Most residential stairs take 2–4 weeks from approved drawing to install, depending on finish. Powder coating and galvanizing add a few days because they're done at a finishing shop.
Do I need a permit for a new staircase in NYC?
Replacing or adding a stair often does need a Department of Buildings permit, especially if it changes egress or structure. We can build to drawings from your architect or point you to an expediter.
Can you combine steel with wood treads?
Yes — steel stringers with hardwood treads are one of the most requested designs. We fabricate the steel with pre-drilled tread brackets so your carpenter or our team can fasten the wood cleanly.
Can a stair be installed in an occupied home?
Yes. We fabricate everything in the shop so on-site work is mostly fitting and fastening, which keeps noise, dust and time in your home to a minimum.
Do you offer free estimates?
Send us photos and rough measurements by text or email and we'll usually give you a price range quickly. For custom work we'll visit to measure.
What areas do you serve?
All of Brooklyn, plus Staten Island, Queens and Manhattan. South Brooklyn neighborhoods are closest to our shop.
