A railing is safety equipment that happens to be the most visible piece of design in a stairwell. We build both halves of that job: guards and handrails at code height with the right baluster spacing, in a design that suits the house — whether that's a clean blackened-steel flat bar for a gut renovation or hand-forged pickets to match a 1900s brownstone.
Every railing is templated on site. Stairs in older Brooklyn homes wind, lean and change pitch, so we fit each section to the actual stair rather than forcing a straight kit onto it.

Why Brooklyn chooses Angir for interior stair railings & handrails
Templated to your stair
Winding and out-of-plumb stairs are the norm in pre-war buildings. We template every run so posts land solidly and rails follow the true pitch.
Code height & spacing
We build guards and handrails to NYC Building Code heights and keep openings tight enough that a 4-inch sphere can't pass through.
Clean, quiet install
Welding and grinding happen in our shop. On site we fit, fasten and touch up — minimal mess in a finished home.

Interior Stair Railings & Handrails FAQ
How tall does a stair railing need to be in NYC?
Handrails on stairs are typically 34–38 inches above the tread nosing, and guards at open edges and landings are typically 42 inches in most occupancies (36 inches can apply inside some dwelling units). We confirm the exact requirement for your building type before fabricating.
Can you match an existing antique iron railing?
Yes. We can copy picket patterns, scrolls, collars and newel posts to extend or repair an original railing so the new section blends in.
Can you put a railing on a stair that has carpet or finished wood?
Yes. We use base plates and fasteners sized for the substrate and protect finished surfaces during install.
Do you offer free estimates?
